Here on What’s 한 Your Mind, we speak fervently of Seoul’s ever-changing, ever-amazing café scene. In a city of 10 million people it’s easy to find good cafés with beautiful interiors (and exteriors) and high quality food and drinks. One might expect it to be a little harder in Gongju – a small city of little more than 120,000 people located in South Chungcheong province – but we came across a gem. Edge was a stunning oasis of a coffee shop and offered everything us café-spoiled Seoulites could have wanted.
Beautiful Gongju hanok café
Situated just a stone’s throw away from the Gongju Gongsanseong Fortress and a short car ride away from the beautiful Gongju Hanok Village, Edge is a stunning café set inside a pair of newly-built hanok-style buildings. It’s light and breezy, with a clean and simple interior, and an outdoor seating area full of lush plants.

As for the food and drinks on offer, we tried a selection of items from the concise menu and found them all to be delicious. When it comes to drinks, their coffee is good but the mugwort latte is a popular and tasty option, made even better with the addition of a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Having been baked fresh that morning, the egg tarts nearly tempted me. However, their standout dessert is the Lotus cheesecake, which was light and creamy but not too sweet, and served with fig and raspberry.
In addition to the beautiful aesthetic and quality menu, Edge have a small ‘flea market’ set up inside their main building, selling beautiful stationery and other lifestyle items created by local artists. They also play host to a picnic basket hire service from which you can rent a classic woven basket, pretty blanket and other decorative items to take your picnic to the next level.
Serene decor and delicious desserts

Edge is a beautiful café and should feature as a coffee stop on any decent Gongju travel itinerary. With it’s soothing inside spaces and invigorating outdoor area it’s the defect place to rest and recuperate from a day exploring the city.
